Choosing our residents

Not every cat is suited to café life, and that's okay. Our Cat Care Lead carefully evaluates each cat's temperament, confidence and health before they join the lounge. Cats who need a quieter environment are given care that better suits their individual needs.

The Five Freedoms, and then some

We build our care around the internationally recognized Five Freedoms of animal welfare — freedom from hunger and thirst; from discomfort; from pain, injury and disease; freedom to express normal behavior; and freedom from fear and distress — and add a sixth of our own: freedom to opt out.

  • Fresh water and measured, vet-approved food available in the Cat Care Center at all times
  • Climate-controlled lounge with HEPA filtration and soft, cleanable surfaces
  • Vertical space, hiding spots, scratching surfaces and play sessions for natural behavior
  • Capacity limits and staff support to keep stress low
  • Every cat can leave the lounge whenever they want through cat-only doors

For our cats

Our team follows daily and ongoing health and welfare practices designed around the individual needs of every resident cat:

  • Daily visual health checks including eyes, coat, appetite, litter habits and behavior.
  • Weekly welfare checks to monitor each cat's physical and behavioral wellbeing.
  • Veterinary visits every two weeks, or sooner whenever needed.
  • Sick cats are separated from the lounge and quarantined in a dedicated facility when necessary.
  • New cats are carefully evaluated and introduced before joining the lounge.
  • Cat-safe cleaning products are used throughout the cat areas.
  • Cat-safe environment with no toxic plants or other known hazards.
  • Secure doors and windows help keep our cats safely inside.
  • Rest and choice are part of the routine. Cats are never required to interact with guests and can retreat when they want quiet time.

Enrichment that matters

Boredom is bad for cats. We rotate enrichment daily:

  • Vertical climbing turrets, tunnels and window perches
  • Puzzle feeders and treat hunts
  • Wand-toy sessions led by staff (guests join, staff lead)

For our guests

A few simple practices keep visits safe and comfortable:

  • Sanitize hands when entering and leaving the Cat Lounge.
  • Wear protective shoe covers before entering the lounge.
  • Start with a Cat Host welcome to learn how to interact safely and respectfully with our cats.
  • Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent or responsible adult at all times.
  • Let the cats come to you. We do not allow guests to pick up or restrain cats.
  • Respect the cats' boundaries. Cats always have access to spaces where they can retreat and rest.
  • Report any scratch or bite immediately so our team can respond appropriately. First-aid supplies are readily available.

Staff training

Our team is trained to understand feline body language, recognize signs of stress or discomfort, and respond appropriately to guest and cat safety concerns. Staff are also trained in the procedures required for daily lounge operations, including hygiene, emergency response and safe cat handling.

Facility

We design the space with both human and feline health in mind.

  • HEPA air filtration runs continuously to help maintain clean indoor air.
  • Dedicated cleaning and sanitation routines are followed throughout the café and lounge.
  • Secure entry points help prevent cats from accidentally leaving the lounge.
  • Required inspections, permits and safety standards are maintained in accordance with applicable regulations.

Our promise

If a cat isn't thriving in the lounge, they leave the lounge — full stop. Their welfare will never be traded for a guest experience.
