Exotic Shorthair
The teddy-bear-faced cuddlebug

The Exotic Shorthair belongs to the Persian Breed Group — one of the oldest and best-known families in the cat fancy — alongside the Persian and the Himalayan. All three share the same build, but where the Persian and Himalayan wear a long, flowing coat, the Exotic keeps a short, dense one. With a sweet, flat face, big round eyes and full cheeks, Exotics are friendly with just about everyone.

History
Created in the United States in the 1950s and 60s. Breeders crossed American Shorthairs with Persians intending to improve the American Shorthair; the resulting cats were so appealing in their own right that they became a separate breed.
Personality
Quiet, gentle and affectionate. Exotics have the Persian's placid temperament with a little more of the American Shorthair's playfulness, and they are famously undemanding company.
Did you know?
The breed's long-standing nickname is 'the lazy man's Persian': the same face and body, without the hour of daily grooming.
