History
A very rare hybrid descended from the caracal, a wild cat of Africa and Asia, crossed with domestic cats. The first documented pairing was accidental, at Moscow Zoo in 1998, when a caracal and an Abyssinian shared an enclosure.
Personality
Powerful, athletic and extremely high-energy. A Caracat is not a typical house cat: they need space, secure containment, specialist handling and a great deal of stimulation.
Did you know?
A caracal can leap around three metres from standing to take a bird out of the air — which tells you most of what you need to know about the athleticism in this line.
The caracal, the wild ancestor
These are caracals — the wild cat the Caracat line descends from, photographed in the wild. No caracal lives at Pink Paws: our Caracats are hybrids, and you will find them further down this page.
